A man suspected of being part of the gang that stole £53 million from a Securitas depot in Tonbridge is thought to have fled to Cyprus – with tens of millions of pounds.

Sean Lupton, 47, is believed to have escaped with as much as £32m of the money, which was stolen on February 22, 2006.

The builder was originally arrested for conspiring to commit robbery, but was seen near Folkestone a few weeks later.

Police have travelled to northern Cyprus, as well as Spain, Morocco and Albania hunting for the stolen cash.

Detective Chief Inspector Mick Judge said: “We do believe some of the money has gone with Lupton to Cyprus.”

Today, car salesman Stuart Royle, 49, of Allen Street, Maidstone; post office worker Emir Hysenaj, 28, of Crowborough, East Sussex; former roofer Lea Rusha, 35, of Lambersart Close, Southborough; unemployed Jetmir Bucpapa, 26, of Hadlow Road, Tonbridge, and garage owner Roger Coutts, 30, of The Green, Welling, await their sentences for their parts in the raid, which was Britain’s largest-ever cash robbery.

John Fowler, 59, of Chart Hill Road, Staplehurst, Kent, and Keith Borer, 54, of Hempstead Lane, Maidstone, Kent, were cleared of involvement in the robbery.

Mr Justice Penry-Davey warned the five who were convicted that they face “very substantial” jail terms.

Another suspect, Keyinde Patterson, is thought to have escaped to the West Indies.
