On Friday Night, 23 February, Rochford District Residents held a Fun Quiz Night in aid of the Southend Hospital, Smellies for the Sick Cause.

Supported by over 100 local residents, including our friends from the Hockley Residents’ Association, the Quiz raised £330 for the Smellies.

Rochford District Residents also gave a donation to the local TALKING NEWSPAPERS scheme.

As well as representing people on Rochford District Council, Rochford District Residents supports local charities and good causes by giving regular donations.

Essex County Council - NEW COUNCIL TAX

On 22 February 2007, Members of Rochford District Council were advised by Shaun Scrutton that Essex County Council were going to charge a swinging new tax on property developers.

Basically it is a levy of £10,000 on each new dwelling as a general charge for highway improvements.  So for the 8 flat application we were discussing this was a huge £80,000 tax.

I saw it as a NEW TAX but another Member felt that it was an incentive for RDC to pass the planning application !!

Planning Application Refused in Rectory Road

Demolish Existing Dwellings and Construct Two Storey Building to Provide 4 No. Two Bedroomed and 4 No. One Bedroomed Flats With Access and Parking Area.
66-68 Rectory Road Hawkwell

At a Meeting of the Planning Committee of Hawkwell Parish Council, I was pointedly asked, in front of members of the public, by Parish Councillor, Alan James (who represents the Hawkwell Residents’ Association), how I was going to vote on this planning application if it came before the Development Committee of Rochford District Council.

There was a clear inference by reference to a very controversial series of planning applications on one site in Hockley that I would not be supporting residents.
